OUR PILLARS

  • College Readiness

  • Responsible Leadership

  • Personal Wellness

By delivering programming around these key principles, our schools stand as evidence of the educational empowerment that girls experience upon receiving a public, all-girls, college-preparatory education.

YWPN schools purposefully and intentionally engage, excite, nurture, and offer young girls from underrepresented populations an opportunity and a choice for a promising educational future.

COLLEGE READINESS

Our goal is to ensure 100% of YWPN students attend and graduate from college. Teachers are purposefully focused on high-quality practices and instructional strategies, and our schools offer a challenging college preparatory curriculum that has proven to elevate expectations and accelerate educational performance among students. Through grants and donations, YWPN facilitates programs to enrich students’ educational experiences. These year-round programs include summer learning focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

To ensure that every girl will attend college, each campus is staffed with a full-time College Success Advisor to help students and their parents understand and navigate the college admission process. This work is supported with a robust menu of academic programs and services.

I'm a first-generation high school graduate and college attendee. I am Hispanic and the first in my family to be able to achieve higher education. I cannot express how thankful I am. Every time a family member asks my mom and dad where I am, they happily say ‘in college.’ You can see the pride in their eyes.

RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

The Young Women’s Preparatory Network’s educational plan emphasizes leadership development that awakens and strengthens the moral compass within each of our students. YWPN schools provide multiple and varied opportunities that enable young women to become responsible and accountable decision-makers, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers. Students learn the importance and value of working cooperatively with members of their communities and develop the skills needed to lead and compete in a global society.

• Leadership skill development opportunities
• Professional internships
• Community mentors
• Community service & service-learning experiences
• Leadership-based summer enrichment
• Peer tutoring/peer mentoring programs
• Self-advocacy skill development

Young Women’s Leadership Academy has really changed my life for the better. It has empowered me to impact those around me and help to change their lives. I would not be the person or leader that I am today had I not decided to come to the YWLA. The impact the school had in my life will be forever in my heart.

PERSONAL WELLNESS

YWPN schools are committed to developing the whole girl, which includes instruction in wellness practices that are critical to the long-term health and overall well-being of each student. There is a significant focus on the social/emotional and physical development of the girls with curriculum and strategies designed to promote personal self-care. Students participate in programs, on and off campus, that emphasize and support the importance of having a balanced life. Areas of focus include time management, stress management, daily physical activity, and maintaining an appropriate nutritional diet, with the ultimate goal of teaching girls to make smart choices and practice a healthful and safe lifestyle.

• Fitness activities and nutrition
• Competitive athletics and intramural sports
• Social/emotional learning
• Financial literacy
• Real-world acumen and application
• Professional workplace awareness

The Ann Richards School has prepared me beyond anything to be ready for college-level work, but none of this could have been possible without the help of the Network. You made what seemed like a dream a reality.
