Philanthropic icon Ruth Altshuler will receive the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from VolunteerNow at its Hearts of Texas Luncheon on April 28 at the Belo Mansion & Pavilion.

Gene Jones will be the honorary chair, and Phyllis Bernstein and Shelly Dee are the event co-chairs.

“I am honored to share this moment with Ruth,” Jones said. “She has long been an inspiration to me and to philanthropists across North Texas. Her great service to Dallas is directly in line with VolunteerNow’s critical mission of transforming communities through volunteerism.”

Separately, the organization is celebrating its 45th anniversary with 45 online tributes to outstanding volunteers.

Civic leader and biochemist Lynn McBee will be the first to be profiled when the weekly series “Volunteers Change Everything: 45 Years of Impact” debuts Tuesday at volunteerschangeeverything.org. McBee, CEO of Young Women’s Preparatory Network, has raised funds and supported numerous organizations.

VolunteerNow connects 33,000 volunteers a year with 1,900 local nonprofit organizations. It was formerly known as the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
