Berta Fogerson is the Chief Academic and Accountability Officer for the Young Women’s Preparatory Network based in Dallas, Texas. Berta works directly with teachers and campus leaders in the nine YWPN schools providing mentoring for campus leaders, professional development opportunities, curriculum and program support, and strategies for implementing and sustaining the framework of the YWPN School Model. She oversees instructional initiatives to ensure that they align with the needs of the schools and with the Network’s core values of: College Readiness, Leadership, and Wellness Life Skills.
Mrs. Fogerson is a first-generation college graduate. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Texas Tech University and recently completed a fulfilling, 38-year career as a public-school educator, after holding positions as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Her vast experience in education led her to what she considers her most significant career accomplishment—serving as Principal of the YWPN school in Lubbock: the Margaret Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. During her tenure as principal, the school received the National Blue Ribbon School designation, and she was one of eight principals in the nation to be honored by the Department of Education as a recipient of the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership. In mentoring young women, Mrs. Fogerson finds it most important to focus on developing their confidence and leadership skills while providing them with the necessary support to enable the pursuit of higher education.
