Two area schools not only have excellent test scores to cheer about but also a nomination for the 2016 National Blue Ribbon award as well.

Azle ISD’s Cross Timbers elementary school and Fort Worth ISD’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy made the nomination list for the national award this year, along with 24 other Texas schools.

Part of the U.S. Department of Education, the Nation Blue Ribbon program has been choosing the highest performing schools since 1982.

“Using standards of excellence evidenced by student achievement measures and research-based indicators of school quality, the Department honors high-performing schools and schools that are making great strides in closing any achievement gaps among student groups,” the program’s website states.

Both schools have been proving themselves worthy of the award with technology classes and assessment scores.

They deserve recognition for the education their students are receiving.
