COLLEGE BOUND INITIATIVE

Family income and parental educational achievement should not be the best predictors of college enrollment and success. The Young Women’s Prep College Bound Initiative allows our students to break cycles of poverty and become first generation college graduates.

Over the past ten years, we have developed a comprehensive approach to college advising for our campuses which includes individual college counseling with an emphasis on match and fit, financial aid counseling, college visits, and parent education. Each of our campuses offer a multi-day camp each summer for rising seniors and their families to prepare them for their college application process.

The college advisors on our campuses guide students through the college admissions and financial aid process, connect students with admissions counselors and programming on college campuses, and advocate for the resources and opportunities necessary for their students to become competitive college applicants.

In addition, we establish network-wide relationships with colleges and universities, which lead to special opportunities for our students, including scholarships, holistic application review, and overnight college campus experiences.

As a result, 94% of our students enroll in college the semester after high school graduation. The vast majority of our students enroll in selective institutions with high college graduation rates, including the University of Texas at Austin, Austin College, Texas A&M University, and Southern Methodist University. Our class of 2016 graduates received offers of more than $41.9 million in academic and merit based scholarships and grants.* (*Self-reported numbers; TEA numbers reported in fall 2016)

Irma Rangel Class of 2012, The University of Incarnate Word Class of 2016

The people and culture that I was exposed to have changed my view points and I believe made me into a better person. With every new opportunity the foundation gave me, I was able to mature. When it came time to leave home and go to San Antonio, I knew that I was ready and fully prepared to succeed in college.
