(Dallas, Texas, February 24, 2016) – Fort Worth’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA), a partner school of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN) and part of the Fort Worth ISD, will graduate its first class this June. To celebrate this milestone, the Foundation for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth, which supports YWLA, will host an event on Friday, March 4 called GEMS Rocks to honor this inaugural graduating class.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the semi-formal event features a dinner with graduating seniors seated at each table along with celebratory remarks and festivities at the Fort Worth Convention Center, Ballroom B, 1300 Commerce St. Tickets are $250 per person, and tables are $2,500. For more information or to purchase tickets/tables, visit http://ywlafortworth.foundation.

GEMS stands for Girls Excelling in Math and Science as YWLA is focused on providing a college bound education based on STEAM—science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Lynn McBee, Young Women’s Preparatory Network CEO, said, “We are proud of this first class of graduates and happy for this evening to celebrate their accomplishments, especially knowing that 100% of them will graduate from high school, and 100% of them are accepted to college. Our network honors these young women for working so hard, especially those who will be the first in their families to attend college.”

Young Women’s Leadership Academy (Fort Worth) is one of the eight schools in the Young Women’s Preparatory Network, a nonprofit organization that partners with public school districts to operate the largest network of all-girls’, public, college-preparatory schools in the nation. All YWPN schools feature a STEM-focused curriculum, and a majority of students are economically disadvantaged. The core values are college readiness, leadership and wellness life skills.

YWPN network schools currently serve students in grades 6 through 12 on seven campuses across the state of Texas. YWPN’s results are amazing—100 percent of the girls graduate from high school and 100 percent are accepted into college. Sixty-eight percent of all students come from economically disadvantaged homes, and 68 percent of the Class of 2015 are first generation college students. In 2014-2015, the network’s 247 graduates received more than $29 million in academic and merit scholarships and have matriculated to 87 different colleges and universities.
