Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson Visit Irma Rangel School for Young Women Leaders, a Foundation for the Education of Young Women School, on May 1

  • House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House
  • U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, 30th Congressional District of Texas
  • Vivian T aylor-Samudio, Principal of Irma Rangel
  • 420 students of Irma Rangel, a DISD school that recently ranked #2 high school in Texas and #14 in the nation (U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools)
  • Members of the Foundation for the Education of Young Women, Dallas Links Inc., The Dallas Summit and Dallas Women’s Foundation

    Irma Rangel students will lead a tour of the school and a moderated conversation with Leader Pelosi about the need for young girls to know their power and to be ready for the challenges ahead by having confidence in their own unique abilities. She will answer questions from the students about her career path and work in Congress.

    This is a leadership development event, so the three women’s organizations that are focused on advancing women’s leadership – Dallas Women’s Foundation, Dallas Links Inc. and The Dallas Summit – are partnering with Foundation for Education of Young Women and Irma Rangel for this event.

    Wednesday, May 1, 2013

    2:45 p.m. Press must pre-set in the Irma Rangel auditorium.

    3:00 p.m.-3:15 p.m. Leader Pelosi and U.S. Rep. Johnson will arrive at school for a student lead tour of Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School. Students Karla Garcia, 11th grade, and Tyrian Robertson, 12th grade, will lead the tour.

The tour is open to press for b-roll only.

3:15 p.m. The tour will conclude in the Irma Rangel auditorium.

3:20 p.m.-4:15 p.m. Moderated conversation with Leader Pelosi led by Irma Rangel student, Eden Phillips. Ms. Taylor-Samudio, Principal of Irma Rangel, will welcome and give an overview of the school. Representative Johnson will introduce Eden Phillip and Leader Pelosi.

About the Foundation for the Education of Young Women:

The Foundation for the Education of Young Women is a non-profit that partners with six schools in public school districts to operate all-girl, college preparatory schools. The schools are Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School (Dallas), Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders (Austin), Young Women’s Leadership Academy (San Antonio), Talkington School for Young Women Leaders (Lubbock), and Young Women’s Leadership Academy (Fort Worth).
